Leonce Raphael Agbodjelou - CITIZENS OF PORTO-NOVO at the Jack Bell Gallery 1 - 25th May 2013.

Agbodjelou is a prolific photographer from Benin, West Africa. As the name literally suggests, this exhibition subjects the citizens of his home town Porto-Novo against the backdrop of colonial Portuguese architecture and residual European influences, contrasting the foreign with tradition, the modern with the outdated, and most significantly how daily life in Benin continuously worms its way through the complexities into an undeterminable future.

Agbodjelou has, amongst other important galleries, exhibited his work at the Saachi Gallery in London and was recently appointed president of the Photographer’s Association of Porto-Novo.
